Update 18/02/2014 - 13h45
While not responding to tickets or mails from our NOC team, Spamhaus did respond on one of our Tweets. We didn't get an official confirmation via email from Spamhaus, but it seems that our range isn't listed anymore. We can see that we had green light on http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/latest/ We will do some testings and we advize you to do this as well. It can take a couple of hours before the entire internet is up to date of the deblocking of our range. From the moment that Spamhaus confirmed to us officially, we will update our blog again.

Update 18/02/2014 - 10h15
1 listing remains which needs to be acknowledged by Spamhaus. (After acknowledgement Spamhaus will deblock our IP range as soon as they are willing to do so). As said before, Spamhaus blocks entire IP ranges of ISP, instead of 1 specific IP address or range of the spammer. This is a drastic decision, but as an independant organisation, they set their own rules and procedures. And in this way they often have internet service providers in an unwanted stranglehold. Nevertheless we always have good communication with Spamhaus. We are very sorry for the inconveniences.

Update 17/02/2014 - 16h47
12 individual spamhaus listings are blocked. 8 are acknowledged by Spamhaus. We are waiting for the last 4 listings remaining. After we surely hope Spamhaus can deblock our entire IP range.

Dear customer,

Spamhaus.org listed our IP ranges, due to 2 customers who seems to be spammers. Meanwhile our NOC team took the necessary steps to block these spammers, but you are unable to send mails to people who use spamhaus.org as a filter to receive e-mail.

As we already communicated in the past, spamhaus.org always take extreme measurments by blocking entire IP ranges, instead of the one specific spamming IP address.

As an ISP we do not do any filtering of traffic and we do allow fixed IP users to have their own mail servers, but we try to pro-actively scan as much traffic as we can for possible abuse. We already redefined our policy regarding traffic filtering to prevent such issues, but it seems now that we need to protect ourselves and our customers even more.

We still believe that over the years we already took quite a lot of measurements to get the internet free from abuse and spam as we closed port 25 for all our dynamic IP users and we implemented a state of the art Cisco Iron Port mail system.
Nevertheless we still do not do any traffic filtering and we don't want to.

We are in contact with Spamhaus.org in order to delist our IP-ranges as soon as possible.

  3. There is no feedback that mails are not being delivered. I really had important documents to send, and found out 24 hours later that my mails were not delivered. Please insist on a fast treatment of this problem at Spamhaus! And please keep us informed about any new fact!

    1. If an email can not be delivered due to the spamhaus blocking/filtering, you will always get a message back in your email program.

    2. This is the case with yahoo or other mail providers, but it is absolutely not the case with one of the biggest providers in Germany, 1und1. I am testing the delivery from time to time (since SUNDAY EVENING !!!!!) with one of my customers, and it continues to be a black hole: ne reaction, no answer, the mails simply disappear.

    Communicatie = 0,00000 bij EDPNET.

    1. That is how Spamhaus works... You can not call them, you can only mail them at 1 specific email address. They decide when our complete range will be deblocked, even if we did all the necessary stuff they ask us to do so in order to block the spammers individually. All recent alerts (from this weekend) are cleared. What remains is 1 listing from the past. Spamhaus sets the rules, and there have been a lot of discussions going around in the past about the fact that one independent organization has the power to set the rules and block entire ranges of hosting providers, internet providers, ...

  16. If you are a business why not pay for your own domainname + hosting and send your "critical" mails via your own mailserver. That way it's in your own hands. The IP will be yours and if it get blocked by Spamhaus or any other filtering service you can act within a few minutes and get deblocked ;-)

    1. What can possibly help as an extra push towards Spamhaus is to send them an email by asking them for your de-listing on: http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/ and follow the procedure.

    2. Was just saying. I'm not affected (own hosting) so not sending via EDPnet. Had the same problem with Dommel years ago, threw them out when issue was not solved after many weeks.

    3. We are using our own mailserver, but sadely enough our EDPNet IP address is in the range that Spamhaus has blocked. So even if we have your own systems, we are in bad luck because we are in this range...

  18. we had problems from friday until now. It seems to be solved. No message or warning from EDP received. Our own people searched several hours to locate the problem. It's also not the first time we have this problem with EDP and a simple message is the minimum EDP can send to their customers in case of problems!
